Now in its 25th year at Las Lomitas! Pam Donkin’s Children’s Chorus is open
to all grades. Fall semester will include musical activities that will help develop musical
skills without the pressure of performance. Spring semester we will prepare songs for performance
which will be a the end of Spring semester. Skills will include rhythm, by playing spoons and
learning rhythmic patterns, inner-hearing by playing kazoo, ear training from learning tonal
patterns, concentration by singing rounds and two-part songs, and learning how to blend voices.
Activities will be developmentally appropriate for the lower grades, while challenging enough to
keep the interest of the 2nd and 3rd graders, and above all, have fun with music! Studies reveal
the importance of the ability to keep a steady beat and its link to a child’s linguistic
development. New participants, and any returnees who have lost props, will receive a kazoo and
spoons.
Chorus meets Tuesdays in Cano Hall from 3:35 to 4:20 pm. There are no auditions
required. Chorus is open to all grades, including Kindergarten.
Kindergartners encouraged: Kindergartners are encouraged to join
chorus, and participate at their individual level of development. Hand motions and American Sign
Language will be led so that the children will always know what to do. Kindergartners are not
required to do any more or less than what feels comfortable for them, making chorus a positive
group musical experience for them.
Third Graders: Third graders will have the opportunity to play
percussion instruments, sing solos or duets, and mentor the younger members of chorus.
Parents are always welcome to attend class.
If you would like to preview chorus,
